Letting Go

It's been a month for letting go...so here are a couple of quotes about letting go.

“Don’t cry because it’s over. Smile because it happened.”
Dr. Seuss

“When one door closes another door opens;
but we so often look so long and
so regretfully upon the closed door,
that we do not see the ones which open for us.”
Alexander Graham Bell

Moderation part 2

While my last quote "Everything in Moderation" may be appropriate in many circumstances, I also love the following quote:

Moderation

"Everything in moderation"

Although I think of this quote more with relation to nutrition, it can be transferred to many aspects of my life.

With nutrition, it seems that there are studies that come out telling us that something is very healthy or unhealthy, but then a few years later, they will say the opposite.

Carbs are good; carbs are bad.
Meat is good; meat is bad.
Milk is good; milk is bad.
Wine is bad; some wine is good.
Coffee is bad; some coffee is good.

So, I choose to subscribe to: everything in moderation. Just wanted to clarify in case some of my friends thought they would start seeing me as a health nut. After this cleanse, I will reintroduce the foods and drinks I love, just hopefully in moderation!

It's easy to say no...

"It's easy to say no when there's a bigger yes burning."

I don't remember where I read this quote, but it stuck with me. After starting the Natural Makeover Cleanse this past weekend (you can read my blog post about that here), this quote has been in the forefront of my mind.

When I'm having trouble saying no to a request or to something I don't really want but that is easier to say yes to; I will try to think about the bigger yes that will get me to say no. For example, with the holidays coming, it's easier to say yes to eating unhealthy choices or over-indulging with wine, but I will try to remember the "bigger yes" of keeping my body healthy which will hopefully help me say no. I'll just have to make sure that the bigger yes is burning strong!

Life is not...

I'm going to visit a friend today.

I noticed once that she had a quote posted. I loved it.

Life is not the amount of breaths you take,

it's the moments that take your breath away”

She got the quote from the movie Hitch with Will Smith.

Inappropriate Attire

I first heard this quote by a friend of mine who lives in Victoria.

There is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate attire

It seems like a good quote for this rainy and windy morning.

Daily Happiness Quotes

I find it amazing when coincidences happen. My husband has a coincidence blog where he posts times when he experiences coincidences.

Although, part of me love coincidences; part of me also believes in the law of attraction. Once we focus on something, similar things are attracted to us.

Last week, I started this blog explaining that for years I had saved quotes in various places and I wanted one place to keep them all.

Going on a tangent for a minute, I love reading all kinds of articles. I follow many blogs and websites via RSS. When reading online newspapers, I often will open articles to read later when I have more time. Last Friday, a few days after starting my blog, I opened an article entitled "Sign Up for a daily moment of happiness". I liked the title of this article so opened it to read later. I didn't look at what the article was about until tonight. Gretchen Rubin, the author of the book The Happiness Project is starting to send an email with daily happiness quotes. What are the chances that I start a quote blog the same week that she announces that she will be sending happiness quotes? I met Gretchen when she was interviewed at Indigo last winter. You can read that post here.

In the article she says:
"I take notes whenever I read. I have several notebooks full of quotations, plus two gigantic documents on my computer that I keep meaning to print out. I've had this habit for years; I started my first notebook when I was in sixth grade, and while my taste has changed, the habit has never left me."
"Starting Monday [yesterday], every weekday morning, you can receive a daily email with a short, thoughtful, happiness-related quotation."

I can't believe I've already missed two quotes!! There's a reason I should read things the minute I open them...lesson learned ;-)

You can read the full article here (where you can sign up to receive her quotes yourself). I wonder how many times we will have found the same quotes...or how many times I will be inspired by her quote?

oooh, I guess I should be including a quote with this blog post...what's my favourite Gretchen quote?

"You can choose what you DO, but you can't choose what you LIKE to do."

Everything Happens for a Reason

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of luck. Illness, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test limits of your soul.

Welcome to "Double Inverted Commas"

"Double Inverted Commas" is my new blog where I will post quotes I want to remember and share.

For years I have found myself writing quotes when I would read or hear words that spoke to me. I have quotes written in notebooks, in my blog (My Life Is Like A Song), as drafts in my email accounts, on my iPhone and on pieces of paper. Sometimes it's something someone has said, other times I see them in print or hear them in songs, movies or television shows.

I wanted these quotes to be organized somewhere, which is when I came up with the blog idea. I can write them up and then organize them by theme.

I spent hours yesterday trying to come up with a title for the blog. I was brainstorming, writing words that would reflect what the blog would be about.

I was imagining a place, a corner, an oasis, a nook or a collection of quotes, words, passages, stories or thoughts.

I looked at words that would describe the mood of the blog (sunshine, happiness, love, smile etc.) but I did think that this could limit some of the quotes.

Last night, I was still struggling, when my husband told me to be patient and that it would come. It's hard to be patient when you're excited about something though. I wanted my blog to start right now!

As I lied in bed last night, I came up with Pocketful of Quotes. When I told my husband in the morning, he said it was "ok". Moments later he said Double Inverted Commas. Once I visualized what he meant, I loved it.

So for my first post, I will quote my husband when I said to him that I had been struggling for hours and he came up with something so easily, he said:

"You can't force creativity
You can quote me on that"

So cheers to my husband for getting me started and thanks to you for popping over to see what my new blog is about. Hope you come back again often.
